Being "young, not fashionable: fashions burn out in a jiffy, in a frenzied, dumb rush; youth, instead, the youth of goodness, is timeless". This is the invitation that Benedict XVI made in Genoa yesterday morning to the young people who had flocked in to Piazza Matteotti to meet him, not caring about the endless rain. "Youth, the real one highlighted the Pope , is not a matter of age, of being physically strong, of being fit, of being efficient". Instead, "being young means having discovered the things that remain timeless as time runs by. If a young person discovers the true, great values, then he will never get old", "he will always stay young in his heart and will radiate youthfulness, that is, goodness". A goodness, the epitome of which is Christ: "«Dissolve yourselves» – exhorted Pope Benedict in front of Jesus, because only He can dissolve your anxieties and your fears and fulfil your expectations". Hence his invitation to go "into the living places, in your parishes, in the most difficult neighbourhoods, in the streets", "to live and growth in faith and in Christian life, so as to be in a position to be the brave witnesses of the Lord". "Announce the Lord Jesus Christ, the hope of the world. The farther man gets from God, his spring he concluded , the more he will lose himself, human cohabitation will get difficult and society will crumble up".
