"God Triune and man, related to each other: these are the two points of reference that the Church has a duty to offer to every human generation, to serve the building of a free, sympathetic society". It was said yesterday by the Pope, who, in the homily at Mass in the Cathedral of Genoa, mentioned his speech to the National Ecclesial Conference of Verona and the "two key choices" pointed out by the Bishops at the start of the following Pastoral Note. First and foremost, the choice of "God’s primacy", whereby "all the life and work of the Church depend on putting God first", and that of "placing man and the unity of his life at the centre, in the different areas in which they are involved: affections, work and play, the typical weakness, tradition, citizenship". A duty that, according to the Pope, the Church "certainly carries out through its doctrine, but above all through its testimony that is indeed the third key choice of the Italian Bishops: a personal and communal testimony, in which spiritual life, pastoral mission and cultural dimension meet". "In a society poised between globalisation and individualism warned the Pontiff , the Church is called to offer the testimony of communion".
