"The Eucharist is a school of love and solidarity. Those who feed on Christ’s Bread cannot be indifferent to those who, even in this day and age, have no daily bread". This was said by the Pope, who, before yesterday’s Angelus, lingered once again on the Day of Corpus Domini and the connection between the Eucharist as the "bread of life" and bread in the world. "So many parents denounced the Pontiff can hardly get it for themselves and their children. It is an increasingly serious problem which the international community is having trouble resolving". On his side, reassured the Holy Father, "the Church does not only pray ‘give us our daily bread’ but works in every possible way to ‘multiply the five breads and two fish’ through a multitude of initiatives for human promotion and sharing, so that no one will lack what they need to live". According to the Pope, "this is the beauty of the Christian truth: the Maker and Lord of all things has made Himself a ‘grain of wheat’ to be sown in our soil, in the furrows of our history". Hence his wish that "the feast of Corpus Domini may be an opportunity to grow in this effective care for our brothers, especially for the poor". Finally, the Pope set a date to meet the devotees again on next Saturday, May 31st at 8 pm, in Saint Peter’s Square "for a special celebration to mark the end of the Marian month".
