The results of the scrutiny of the referendum in Ireland are expected this afternoon. The referendum is for ratifying the Treaty of Lisbon. In the European headquarters, everybody is expecting Dublin results: the future of the reform Treaty and of the very integration process largely depends on the approval or rejection by the electors in the green island. This morning, that was confirmed by several spokesmen of the Commission, while the leader of the Executive, José Manuel Barroso, made known that he’s holding a press conference to comment the results, after 3:00 pm. On the other hand, there were no official comments from the highest European Union offices, not even in relation to the modest percentage of voters, lower than 50% of the people having the right to vote (but this datum is not official, yet). In the meantime, the community agenda is going on. Next week, from 16th to 19th June, the plenary session of the European parliament is actually scheduled in Strasbourg, while the 27 heads of State and government of the member countries are meeting in Brussels on 19th and 20th June. For the two meetings, the topics in the agenda are a lot, even though the results of the popular referendum in Ireland will influence both meetings. (To be continued) ” “
