BENEDICT XVI: TO THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF CAMEROON, "TAKE ACTION AGAINST ARM TRAFFICKING"

An appeal "to all the people involved in arm sales and trafficking, often with very lucrative interests, to question themselves on the consequences of their behaviour". "May the international community join forces with the local communities to place peace as the priority in every country": this was said today by Benedict XVI during the submission of the credentials of the new ambassador of Cameroon to the Holy See, Antoine Zanga. The Pope invited all the people of Cameroon "to be increasingly aware of the common good", wishing the international community, with "adequate, well-targeted aids", will "contribute to breaking the vicious circle of underdevelopment and destitution". In addition, Benedict XVI asked for Cameroon "the cancellation of debt and a fairer distribution of wealth". (continued)
