EUROPEAN CHURCHES: CCEE, A MEETING ON THE "RELIGIOUS SITUATION IN EUROPE" ” “” “

The secretaries general of the European Bishops’ Conferences are meeting in Covadonga (Spain) from 26th to 30th June: Albania, Byelorussia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, France, Germany, England and Wales, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Low Countries, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Scandinavia, Saints Cyrill and Metodius, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Hungary, (Byzantine) Ukraine, and (Latin) Ukraine. The archbishop of Oviedo, Msgr. Carlos Osoro Sierra, will also take part in the meeting. The meeting is promoted by the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) and takes place by invitation of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference and its secretary, Msgr. Juan Antonio Martínez Camino SJ, auxiliary bishop of Madrid. The fundamental subject which the secretaries general will be facing is "Religious situation in Europe: amidst secularization and demand for meaning and spiritualism". In particular – it is written in a note – at first, they will analyze the religious situations in various European countries, trying to focus problems and fundamental questions. Later on, they will discuss on the perspectives for the role of the Church, evangelization, the pastoral, and the activities of the Bishops’ Conferences.
