For the Twelfth Ordinary General Assembly of the Episcopal Synod, due to take place in the Vatican from 5th to 26th October about "God’s Word in the life and in the mission of the Church", the Pope appointed delegated presidents the cardinals William Joseph Levada, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith; Oswald Gracias, archbishop of Bombay (India); Odilo Pedro Scherer, archbishop of São Paulo (Brazil).
