BENEDICT XVI: TO THE BISHOPS OF HONG-KONG AND MACAU, "DO NOT HIDE THE GOOD NEWS TO THE CHINESE"

” ” ” “"Do not hide" "the good news" of the Gospel to the Chinese: this is the invitation made by Benedict XVI who received some bishops of Hong Kong and Macau (China) on their visit "ad limina". The group included card. Joseph Zen Ze-kiun, bishop of Hong-Kong. The Pope encouraged the two Chinese dioceses "to keep giving their contribution to the Church in continental China by offering training staff and supporting beneficial initiatives of human promotion and assistance". "Do not forget, though – he highlighted –, that Christ is, even for China, a Master, a Shepherd, a loving Redeemer: the Church cannot hide this good news". The Pope wished "the day will soon come when even your brethrens in continental China will be able to come to Rome on a pilgrimage on the graves of the apostles Peter and Paul, as a sign of communion with the Successor of Peter and with the universal Church". Benedict XVI asked the two dioceses not to waste the "precious service" of the Catholic schools which are having problems now and to "help the ecclesial movements" "with lots of love, since they are one of the most important news aroused by the Holy Spirit". On their side, the movements must work "to harmonise their activities with the pastoral and spiritual plans of the dioceses".
