COUNCIL OF EUROPE: KELLENBERGER (RED ROSS), "FIGHTING TERRORISM WHILE ABIDING BY THE LAW"

"Proactive support" to the initiatives launched by the International Committee of the Red Cross in the area of humanitarian rights, so that human rights are respected in all countries. The appeal was made by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) gathered in Strasbourg for its plenary session. In addition, PACE encourages the 47 member states to "support the future goals of the Red Cross", including the fight against anti-personnel mines and effective aids to the victims of these weapons. From the floor, the delegates of the member states were engaged in a debate today about these topics, discussing the report of the English MEP Michael Hancock. The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Jakob Kellenberger, had spoken before him to say that "fighting terrorism while abiding by human dignity and human rights" means "investing in international security in the long term".
