EU’S GREEN WEEK: DIMAS (EU COMMISSION), "MAN IS USING UP THE RESOURCES OF THE EARTH"

"Man is using up the natural resources of the Earth at an alarming pace": Stavros Dimas, Environment Commissioner, gives his alarm as he opens the Green Week, "the greatest yearly conference about environmental policies" in the old continent, taking place in Brussels from today to June 6th. The name of this year’s Green Week is "Only One Earth – Don’t waste it”. Dimas explains: "We produce more waste that we can recycle as useful resources. We must take action now to raise the awareness of the public and the political decision-leaders, so as to reverse this trend". For Dimas, the Green Week "offers the Commission and the other EU institutions a precious opportunity to explain their work, as well as to listen to and learn from the wealth of experiences of many stakeholders". The main events will take place in the Charlemagne Palace, the heart of the European district of the Belgian capital. Where several guests will highlight the topicality of the issue and the problems associated with climate change that can also be found in many of the floods that occurred in many member states over the last few days.
