The 2008 Green Week, promoted by the EU Executive, is focussed, as explained by the organisers, "on the need of a more sustainable use of resources by Europe and the rest of the world". In addition to the 38 conference sessions, the schedule includes several side events such as tonight’s ceremony, during which Commissioner Dimas will announce the winners of the European Business Awards for the Environment 2008. Runners up include eleven companies from seven member states: France, United Kingdom, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. The scheduled events will see the involvement of 3 thousand people, including politicians, environmental experts, NGO directors and environmentalist groups. The workshops will be focussed on four different subjects: resources and waste management, sustainable consumption and production, nature and biodiversity, climate change. The guests will illustrate the EU’s policies in these areas, such as waste management, water savings. The sessions will be broadcast in streaming TV on the Week’s website: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/greenweek.
