Arrived in Australia on July 1st 2007, after a 12 months’ journey round the continent, the WYD symbols, the Cross and Mary’s Icon, along with the aboriginal ‘message stick’, will be getting in Sydney today for a 15 days’ pilgrimage in the region around the city that will host the WYD from July 15th to 20th. According to the WYD organisers, tomorrow, July 1st, the Cross and the Icon will visit the dioceses of Wollongong, then will move on to Parramatta, Broken Bay and back to Sydney, where they will make their entrance in Barangaroo Pier, which will host the opening Mass on July 15th. Since their arrival in Australia, on July 1st 2007, the WYD symbols have visited 400 communities and met approximately 400 thousand people. Over these last few days of the pilgrimage of the Cross, the Committee is asking all those who wish to take part in it to sign in at wyd2008.org to avoid overcrowding. Everyone is recommended to use public transport and bring packed lunch. The Cross and Icon will move on foot only, starting at about 9 am and stopping at about 4.30 pm. A long procession that for 15 days will touch the most important and crowded places in Sydney and its surroundings to give the city a foretaste of the WYD.
