"Not only the Minister of God but every Christian is responsible for being a preacher of what he experienced inside himself, on the example of Christ who became a man to bring to everyone the announcement of salvation". It was said by the Pope, who, in today’s audience, focussed for the second time on the figure of Gregory the Great. "The horizon of this commitment is the eschatological one", went on Benedict XVI: "the expectation of the fulfilment of all things in Christ is a constant thought of the great Pontiff and eventually becomes the inspiration behind every thought and every work of his. Hence his ceaseless appeals to wariness and commitment to good deeds". In particular, added the Holy father, off the cuff, Gregory insists on the "only meaning of the Scriptures", as aptly underlined by the "binomials" of "knowing and doing, speaking and living, knowing and acting". Binomials, these ones, which are evidence of "the two aspects of human life", which are "complimentary" but "unfortunately risk being antithetical". "The ideal of moral life explained the Pope consists in accomplishing a harmonious combination of word and action, reflection and commitment, prayer and the accomplishment of one’s official duties".” ” ” “
