Four are the main subjects that the current Slovenian presidency of the European Union will point out for the summit with the United States, which will take place in Brdo tomorrow: regional political issues; international security; current global challenges; transatlantic partnership. Slovenia will host the "top-level" summit that takes place once a year, its venue alternating between the United States and Europe, in the country that is currently heading the Council of the 27 member states. The EU will be represented by its current president, the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa, the president of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, and the High Representative for Foreign Policy, Javier Solana. The US delegation will be headed by president George Bush. Speaking just before the summit, at the latest plenary session, European Parliament had insisted on the need to strengthen "the transatlantic alliance" by increasing "contacts with the United States through a more advanced partnership agreement" which "should include consultation on mutual interests, as well as the prevention of civilian conflicts, international order, peace and disarmament, sustainable development and the fight against poverty".
