FRANCE: BISHOPS CONFERENCE, FROM JULY 3RD "A TRAINING SESSION" ON ISLAM

"Getting to know and meeting Muslims". This is the title of "a training session" that the National Service for Relations with Islam of the French Bishops Conference will organise in Orsay from 3 to 10 July. It will be, explains father Cristophe Roucou, director of the National Service, "a training session, not a session of dialogue. A session targeted to all those Christians who are questioned by Islam as a religion and by the presence of Muslims in France". The goal, goes on father Roucou, is to give the participants "some cues, some approaches to understand them. Many Christians actually have contacts with Muslims. We offer them some points of reference to live together, to compare their faiths, to understand Islam better". The days will be divided into two times: in the morning, lessons on different aspects of Islam (history, anthropology, currents…), in particular, an initiation to the Koran; the afternoon will be focussed on meeting some witnesses.
