ANGLICANS: THE "LAMBETH CONFERENCE" OPENING NOW, THE SCHEDULE (2)

On Saturday 19 July, the bishops will give a welcome to their "ecumenical guests": these are the 75 leaders of the main Churches and Christian communities. The list includes card. Walter Kasper, president of the Papal Council for the Promotion of Christians. On Tuesday 22 July – the day revolving around evangelisation and the proclamation of the God’s Word –, the floor will be taken by the main speaker, card. Ivan Dias, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of the Peoples. On Thursday 24th, the bishops of the "Lambeth Conference", headed by archbishop Rowan Williams, will be received by the Queen in Buckingham Palace in the afternoon. In the plenary sessions, the bishops will speak of "Anglican identity", mission, social justice, environment. The last day, 31st July, they will focus on a hot issue, i.e. human sexuality, which has also been widely discussed by the dissenting bishops in Jerusalem, because it is in deep contrast with the decisions taken over the last few years by the Episcopalian Churches of Canada and the United States, to admit professedly gay bishops and bless gay unions. Part of the Lambeth Conference will be devoted to inter-religious dialogue as well. On Monday 28th, the floor will be taken by the head rabbi of Great Britain, Jonathan Sacks.
