"Extending and redirecting the Euro-Mediterranean relations", by strengthening the original goals of the Barcelona Process (dating back to 1995), which included the establishment of "a space of peace, security and prosperity across the two seashores". These are the pivotal points of the Paris Summit of Sunday 13th July, promoted by the current presidency of the EU Council, which will bring to the Grand Palais of the French capital 43 heads of state and government. "The plan for the Euro-Mediterranean Union – explains a note from the French government – wishes to strengthen and push forward the cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean Sea". "Starting from the realisation that the differences in the level of development between the two shores are getting deeper, thus aggravating the risk of instability all over the region, the President of the French Republic, along with all his European and Mediterranean counterparts, has revived the Mediterranean partnership. This means resuming the accomplishments of the Barcelona Process opened thirteen years ago", as well as "pushing forward its ambitions and developing its operation and policies". (continued)
