BENEDICT XVI: TO JOURNALISTS ON THE PAPAL PLANE, "AWAKEN CONSCIENCE"

” “Sexual abuses are "incompatible" with being a priest. The Pope is back talking about this subject by answering the questions of the journalists who are sitting on the plane which is taking him to Australia for the World Youth Day. Benedict XVI said to be ready to declare to be "sorry" for the scandal of paedophile priests in Australia, too, as happened in his recent journey to the United States. Another subject focussed in the talks between the Pope and the journalists was environment. According to Benedict XVI, it is necessary "to awaken conscience" on environmental questions, starting from one’s lifestyles. The environmental question – added the Pope – will be the main priority during the Australian journey: the Holy Spirit is actually the core of the World Youth Day, and "talking about the Holy Spirit is talking of the Creation and our responsibility with respect to it". Benedict XVI talked also about the World Youth Day, an idea that remains valid. The WYD "is not just a mass event but a great feast of faith, and opens new frontiers for the union of cultures", said Pope Ratzinger: "I think it is valid because, in several parts of the Earth, we have been going on towards Christ, and I hope that will also be a formula for the future".
