WYD IN SYDNEY: 100 DISABLED WILL ALSO BE PROTAGONISTS

(From our envoys in Australia) – The people with disabilities taking part in the WYD of Sydney will be about one thousand. They will be assisted by Australian groups and communities. Two of them will be the protagonists of the offertory procession in the opening and final Masses, while a third person, deaf, will be present at the wake on 19th July. "Not only will the people with disabilities be rendered capable of taking part in all the events, but they will be asked to participate in a special way", stated the bishop coordinating the WYD, Msgr. Anthony Fisher, on explaining that presence. The issues of disability will be tackled during a catechesis promoted by the Arca community, which will be the protagonist of a two-hour show on 16th July, at Paddington Town Hall. On the other hand, another catechesis will take place with the language of signs, used also to administer the sacrament of reconciliation. To assist the people with disability, there will also be over three hundred volunteers of the Order of Malta. The company "San Vincenzo de Paoli" has manufactured 500 thousand miniature crosses for the pilgrimage of the Cross, and has produced one million hosts for WYD Masses.
