Brother Michael Mary, vicar general and founder of the "Transalpine Redemptorists", an order of monks founded in Scotland in 1988 with the blessing of archbishop Lefebvre, announced online they are in communion with Rome. "Dearest brethrens reads a letter on the website http://papastronsay.blogspot.com, relayed by the latest issue of the Catholic weekly "The Tablet" I am glad to inform you that on June 18th, in front of cardinal Castrillon and the members of the "Papal Commission Ecclesia Dei" in Rome, I humbly submitted a petition to the Holy See in my name and in the name of the Council of the Monastery for our priestly suspensions to be removed. On June 26th I learnt that the Holy See has granted our petition. All canonical censures have been suspended. Now, our community rejoices because it is in communion with the Holy See. We are very grateful to the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI for issuing in July 2007 the "Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum" which called us to be in peaceful and undisputed communion with Him". This order includes eighteen monks and lives on Papa Stronsay Island, in the Orkneys, on the far north of Scotland. It celebrates the Tridentine rite. The Pope’s decision last year to reduce the harshness of the rules of Latin Mass has been construed by the Transalpine Redemptorists as an invitation to "enter into communion" with Rome.
