WYD IN SYDNEY: DEVOTEES QUEUEING FOR THE BLESSED PIER GIORGIO FRASSATI

(From our correspondents in Sydney) – A long queue of pilgrims today, in front of the Cathedral of St. Mary’s in Sydney, to worship the relics of the blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, whose body was transferred from Turin to Sydney for the WYD. "I did not know much about him, but now I’d like to know more – states Johas Item, a Swiss boy on his first WYD –. This is certainly a way to understand how lively the Church is today and reawaken the enthusiasm of faith among the young". Steven Panlilio, who has come from Manila to pray in front of the blessed Turin-born man, does not hide that "one of the reasons I decided to attend this WYD is just because one of the patrons was Frassati. I have been fascinated by the figure of this young university student who devoted his short life to the poor. I remember I heard about him from John Paul II during the WYD in Rome, and from then on I have followed his testimony". A similar experience was shared by a young couple, Michael and Veronica Andrews who have come from Melbourne with their little daughter, Catalina, just 5 months old: "What impressed us most is his devotion to God, and we are glad this WYD is held in Australia, this country needs it".
