(from our correspondents in Sydney) He travelled alone from Benin to participate in WYD. That’s the adventure of Marcaurel Joussanou, student of geography, who arrived in Sydney today from Benin in West Africa after a two-day journey. "I worked so long to be able to afford this journey he told SIR ; my parish, that of St, Domenic in the capital Porto Novo, supported me in prayer, not being able to do so in any other way. WYD is a unique opportunity for me to join pilgrims from all over the world. It will be a week of spiritual enchantment". "Now that I have arrived he explains I hope to get to know other pilgrims from my country, but I don’t know if I’ll find any. However I don’t feel alone in the midst of so many other youngsters. I was struck, in particular, by seeing pilgrims from Pakistan. I know how difficult it is to live as Christians in countries with an Islamic majority, even if the majority in Benin is Catholic". Joussanou is pretty clear in his mind about what he should do once he returns home: "I will recount what I saw and experienced during these days in Sydney to transmit something of the magic of WYD to my people". On the first day of this adventure he clings to the dream: "to tell the Pope that young Africans await him in their land".
