(From our correspondents in Sydney) – "Dear kids, you have brought springtime to this Australian winter. You are the springtime of the world and of the Church". These are the words that Card. Stanislaw Rylko, President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, addressed to young people taking part in WYD at the end of the opening Mass. "Today Sydney is the world capital of youth", the Cardinal added: "WYD is a great way for you to experience your faith together at a very special time for Christ’s encounter with His Church". An encounter, he remarked, which is "an invitation for young people to become missionaries and disciples of the Gospel". "You came here bringing your youth, your hopes and future projects, filled with faith and enthusiasm. But you are also bringing the questions to which you cannot find answers by yourselves. "Jesus Christ is the only master and guide that never lets you down". Therefore "let yourselves be guided by the Holy Spirit along your lives’ paths, open the doors to your hearts, let the Holy Spirit shape you, so that it can give you strength and joy".
