"It is a further evidence that the gap between the rich and the poor is reaching unacceptable levels in all sectors of the United Kingdom’s society". Niall Cooper, coordinator of "Church Action on Poverty" defined "The 2008 State of the Countryside Report" in that way. The Report is carried out by the Commission every year for the rural communities. It was presented today in Manchester. According to the Report, poverty and inequality are increasing much more quickly in the countryside than in towns: "In the last two years, the percentage of people living under the threshold of poverty went up by three percent in the countryside against one percent in urban areas", while "wages deriving from agricultural activities tend to go increasingly down: therefore, work is not a guarantee to overcome poverty". For this reason, "Church Action on Poverty" re-launches its appeal for actions putting an end to such phenomenon. "It is time stated Cooper the problem was faced in all our communities, and the often neglected aspects of rural poverty should be included.
