"This initiative, of celebrating a simultaneous day in Spain explain the bishops , has been designed to offer the young who for one reason or other could not go to Sydney an experience of the encounter with Christ through prayer, catechesis and the Eucharist, and at the same time to experience the joy of doing it in community and in communion with the World Youth Day of Sydney". Four places have been chosen for the "Spanish" Day: the Cathedral of Almudena (Madrid), the Cathedral of the Apostle, in Santiago de Compostella, Castillo de Javier (Navarra), and the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Rocío (Huelva). The main celebrations officiated by Benedict XVI in Sydney will be broadcasted live by satellite for the pilgrims, including the time the Pope will announce the venue of the next WYD outside Rome.
