"Here pointed out the archbishop of Beograd -, the strong desire to give all populations, ethnic groups and ethnic minorities who are present in the land a ‘European context’ is clearly felt. Integration into the European Union will be an important step to achieve internal reconciliation and to find out solutions to the numerous political problems which still exist. I think that the European community and the international community should do anything possible to carry out this integration, though respecting the Serbian identity linked to an Eastern Christian culture". "Furthermore went on Msgr. Hocevar, a closer dialogue between the Orient and the Western world is necessary. We ask the West to guarantee a communication network with the Orient, as much as possible: in this region (Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Albania), infrastructures and road, railway and air connections are missing: this rendered internal and external communications difficult, and caused isolation as well as dialogue impossibility. Cultural, social and economic progress was also impossible. Serbia is still a very poor country; inside it, a widespread system of schools, education institutes and universities is still missing".
