” “Over 63% of broadcasting time on the European TV stations is "made in Europe" and 36% concerns works by independent European producers. This is the scenario portrayed by the eighth report of the EU Commission on the effectiveness of the EU regulations on the promotion of European works for 2005-2006. The report, which is published every two years, "takes stock of the promotion of European works on TV channels under the "TV without frontiers" Directive". In particular, this report reviews the work carried out by the TV stations of the new member states and "shows that the content of their programmes is as European as that of the 15-member EU". According to Viviane Reding, Commissioner for information society and the media, "today’s statistics show that the EU’s audiovisual industry is viable and all member states, both old and new work, are engaged to promoting cultural diversity". "Of course adds the Luxembourg-born Commissioner , our audiovisual industry shall continue to work hard and offer rich, innovative contents to introduce such services as mobile TV or video-on-demand services".” “
