ANGLICANS: ANGLICAN BISHOPS LAUNCH A NUMBER OF PROPOSALS TO BREAK THE "DEADLOCK"

” “It has been presented as a document of "preliminary observations". A text to be "reflected upon and discussed". A "test", to try out suggestions and proposals on how to "go on" and thus break the "deadlock" in which the Anglican Communion is. The text was drawn up by the "Windsor Continuation Group", the Committee in charge of developing a proposal before the end of the Lambeth Conference, on August 4th. The text – which is in the hands of the 650 Anglican Bishops – does not hide problems: it speaks of a "complicated" and "serious" situation, of "loss of confidence" and the "turmoil" that has taken place in the United States and Canada following the ordination of overtly gay bishops and the blessing of gay unions. "All this caused the feeling of communion to weaken". That’s not all. "This turmoil – reads section 1 – affects our relations with our ecumenical partners", some of whom "are beginning to raise the problem of the identity of their Anglican partner. In the light of the ecumenical movement, there can be no more tensions in a communion that do not have wider repercussions on all the Christian family". The text raises a number of questions, to be reflected upon by the Bishops, for instance the Communion between the Churches and the role of the Bishop. (continued)” “
