” “A few hours ago, until 9th July, young people from the member states of the G8 and the developing countries started the “Junior 8 Summit”, held in Chitose, on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. "The agenda of the Junior 8 Summit, which takes inspiration from that of the G8 summit that will also be held in Hokkaido from 7th to 9th July – stated a note from Unicef today –, includes a meeting with the leaders of the G8 on the occasion of the opening of their summit". "For one week, the 39 boys and girls of the J8 will discuss poverty and development, climate change, HIV/AIDS and other threats to children’s survival". Each G8 country (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, Russia and United States) will be represented at the J8 by a team composed of 4 boys and girls aged 13 to 17. "Another 7 young delegates from Barbados, the Ivory Coast, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal and South-Africa – goes on Unicef that selected them – are the expression of the different regions of the developing world" and "have been selected from those most committed in their countries to projects and initiatives relating to the summit’s topics". 9 of these boys and girls will meet the leaders of the planet to voice their proposals and requests. The previous J8s were held in Gleneagles, Scotland (2005), Saint Petersburg, Russia (2006), and Wismar, Germany, in 2007.
