SOMALIA: APPEAL FROM THE ITALIAN NGOs "TO ALL SOMALIS", "HELP US FREE THE KIDNAP VICTIMS"

After the abduction two days ago of another five humanitarian aid-workers in Somalia, who were members of the Italian NGO "Water for life", all Somali nationals, the Italian NGOs working in Somalia make a new appeal to all Somalis, either in Somalia or abroad. "Abductions – says Sergio Marelli, president of the Italian NGO Association, speaking of the text of the appeal – have become by now a daily weapon which is increasingly directed to Italian and international personnel. The situation is walarming, not least because such extensive and frequent crimes had never seen before in Somalia". "Somalia cannot accept that this cruelty goes on – he states – blocking any attempt to help and support the populations, destroying every effort to bring peace back. We will keep being on your side, but we can do that only if we see a strong, determined response from all Somalis against such rampaging crime and inhumanity". In the meantime, states Marelli, as to the abduction of Jolanda Occhipinti and Giuliano Paganini and their colleague Abdirahman John, "Cins is still following all the time, along with the Italian institutions, the ways that have been found to free them". "We hope – he concludes – we can reach a positive solution, as soon as possible, to the abduction of these people and all the others".” ” ” “
