EUROPEAN CHURCHES: ITALY, SLOVENIA, AUSTRIA. "PILGRIMAGE OF THE THREE PEOPLES" ON AUGUST 23RD

An "appointment of faith, expression of friendliness and brotherhood". Thus, the archbishop of Udine, Msgr. Pietro Brollo, presented the believers of the dioceses the 2008 round of the "Pilgrimage of the three peoples", the initiative which, for 26 years, has been involving the pilgrims in the Italian dioceses of Udine and Gorizia, the Slovenian dioceses of Ljubljana, Maribor and Koper, and the Austrian dioceses of Klagenfurt and Graz. Every year, one of the dioceses involved hosts the pilgrims: this year, it is the turn of the archdiocese of Ljubljana (Slovenia); the destination of the pilgrimage is the Sanctuary of Brezje, in the Gorenjska area, a short distance from Bled. The subject of the pilgrimage, taking place on 23rd August, is: "Who’s going to separate us from God’s love?" (Rom. 8.35). Through a message – published in the number of the diocesan weekly (La Vita Cattolica) which is going to be issued –, Msgr. Brollo invited Friuli believers to participate in this initiative massively. "These peoples are joint in the name of their common faith, spread in this part of Europe by the evangelising work of Aquileia. This faith has been joining the three populations, once separated by the iron curtain, since the times of the Cold War". (To be continued)
