AFRICA: REV DANDALA (AACC), "THE CHURCHES ASK FOR A GOOD DEVELOPMENT, NOT BAD HELP"

” “The ambassador Jan Cedergren, president of the workgroup of OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) which deals with the effectiveness of aids, met in Accra yesterday an ecumenical delegation led by rev. Mvume Dandala, secretary general of the Conference of the Churches of all Africa (Aacc), to discuss issues related to the Forum on the effectiveness of aids, which is opening in the Ghana’s city today. The OECD delegate warned that the Forum will not solve all the problems relating to aids, and not everyone will be satisfied with the results it will achieve, since this is a time-consuming negotiating process in which donors and governments are prudent about change. At the same time, he congratulated the Churches and the international religious organisations on their relentless commitment to ecumenical dialogue. "Many countries – stated the diplomat – will still be dependent on aids for years to come; unfortunately, we cannot change the situation, but together we can change the nature of such aids". On his part, bishop Dandala said that the Churches and the religious organisations ask for a good development, not bad help, and insisted on the need for more transparency, responsibility and for the communities to be more influential on national policies". ” “” “” “” “
