According to the Pope, "the native countries too must show a sense of responsibility, not only because their fellow citizens are involved but also to remove the causes of illegal migration, as well as to nip in the bud any form of crime which may be connected with it". On their part, went on Benedict XVI, "the European countries and otherwise the destination countries are also called to develop, in joint agreement, initiatives and facilities that are more and more suited to the needs of illegal migrants". The latter, then, "must also be made aware of the value of their life, which is a unique, ever precious asset to be protected from the extremely serious risks which they expose themselves to as they try to improve their conditions and of the duty of lawfulness which is everyone’s duty". "As a common Father concluded the Pope , I deeply feel bound to draw everyone’s attention to the problem and ask individuals and institutions to join forces to address the problem and find solutions".
