Georgia and the Balkans as well as the Lisbon Treaty: on the agenda of the Council of Foreign Affairs, gathered in Brussels today and tomorrow, the heads of the diplomacies of the 27 member states will address the most crucial points of international affairs and start talks on the future of the EU integration, in the run-up to the mid-October summit. The summit is chaired by Bernard Kouchner, French Minister of Foreign Affairs. Following the European Council of 1st September and Sarkozy’s visit to Moscow on September 8th, "the Council should adopt a joint action aiming to deploy 200 observers" in Georgia, as agreed with the Russian and Georgian authorities. "The ministers explains a release from the presidency will then discuss the European contribution to the reconstruction of Georgia, as well as the preparation of the international conference on Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia", in Geneva on October 15th. Other items on the agenda include the situation in Belarus, Zimbabwe and Somalia, as well as the relations between the EU and Serbia, "in the light of the arrest and transfer of Radovan Karadzic to The Hague". Finally, the Council "will take stock of the negotiations of the Doha cycle at the World Trade Organisation after the failure of last July’s meeting".
