The plenary meeting of the German Bishops Conference (Dbk) will be held in Fulda from 22nd to 25th September. It will be the first plenary meeting to be chaired by the new president of Dbk, mgr. Robert Zollitsch (archbishop of Freiburg). The main topics that will be addressed by the 67 members of the assembly include the relationship between the Church and the media, for one day’s workshop. It will illustrate the technical innovations of the industry and the impact of the work of the media on an inter-diocesan level. In addition, the plenary meeting will jointly issue a declaration on the building of mosques, a subject that is very hot in Germany right now and has aroused many controversies. As to ecumenism, the assembly will vote on the resumption of theological talks with the Lutheran United Evangelical Church of Germany (Velkd) and the Patriarchate of Moscow, as well as on the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the reform, due in 2017. The agenda of the plenary assembly includes the development of a directive for the promotion of plans for climate protection in social, cultural and public facilities and a report on the Sydney WYD.
