EVOLUTIONISM: MGR. RAVASI, "IT IS NOT INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE MESSAGE OF THE BIBLE" (2)

"About evolutionism, we will work a hard as we can", ensured Ravasi as he announced the initiatives that will be taken by the Papal ministry concerned, which has a whole department in charge of the relation between science and theology. In particular, 2009 will see "different events" being held around the relation between science and faith, not least on the occasion of the Year of Astronomy launched by the UN, which will give prominence to Galileo Galilei’s work. The perspective is that of a "mutual listening" between the scientific, philosophical and theological parties, of a "dialogue – "specially supported by Benedict XVI as well – inspired to "three virtues". The first one, explained Ravasi, is "a serious, not approximate, research", aiming to "overcome commonplaces and clichés, arrogance, radicalism and inferiority complexes". "Theology and science – went on the speaker – have their feet planted on different grounds, have different reasons, different situations: the important thing is that for the boundary line not to become a sort of Chinese wall or Iron curtain beyond which one will not look". Therefore, according to Ravasi, "a nobility of distinction, which however is not separateness, is required". (continued)
