BENEDICT XVI: TO BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA, TREASURING THE "PAINFUL LESSONS" OF THE PAST (2)

Then, in his speech, the Pope spoke of different issues: he emphasised the importance of the family and education, because – he said – they contribute to giving "a soul to a nation". He exhorted those who work in the media to serve "a higher justice and solidarity" and asked the state and all sections of society to contribute to the "social and economic development of the country". Then, Benedict XVI expressed the full willingness of the Catholic Church to work for the country. "On its part – said the Pope –, the Church in Bosnia Herzegovina will keep supporting the achievement of reconciliation, peace and prosperity", and it will do it "through its parishes, schools, medical assistance". Even "its involvement in ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue can be regarded as one further way to serve society". In promoting "spiritual and moral values", the Church – said the Pope – feeds culture, motivating the men and women of good will to strengthen the bonds of solidarity and show how much a united society can receive from a plurality of peoples".
