FILM FESTIVAL: MGR. CELLI GIVES THE "BRESSON" AWARD TO DIRECTOR DANIEL BURMAN (2)

Daniel Burman, film director, playwright and producer, was born in Buenos Aires in 1973. In 2004, he won the Jury Award at the 54th Berlin Festival with his "El abrazo partido" which, along with "Esperando al Mesías" (2000) and "Derecho de famiglia" (2006), is part of an autobiographical trilogy about the problems of a young Jew in Buenos Aires (Ariel, played in all three films by Daniel Hendler). It is the first time the "Bresson" Award, now in its ninth year, has been given to such a young film-maker. Last year, it was won by the Russian Aleksandr Sokurov. In the past, it was given to Manoel De Oliveira, Giuseppe Tornatore, Wim Wenders, Theo Angelopoulos, Krzysztof Zanussi, Jerzy Stuhr and Zhang Yuan. "This year – said mgr. Dario E. Viganò, president of Fondazione Ente dello spettacolo, during the awards ceremony –, we come to Venice with a new message: to promote young talent. That’s why we decided to give the award to a promising Argentine director, who is already successful abroad but still poorly known in Italy".
