As he officiated Mass in Albano yesterday and the dedication of the altar of the cathedral, Benedict XVI pointed out, in his sermon, that "even the prophets denounced the uselessness of those deeds of worship that lacked a relevant moral frame of mind, especially in the relations with one’s neighbours". The Pope, received by cardinal Angelo Sodano, by the bishop of Albano, mgr. Marcello Semeraro, by the priests and the congregation, during the celebration asked how "can one communicate with the Lord, if we don’t communicate with each other", and "how can one then stand up at God’s altar, divided, distant from each other". The Pontiff called the Christian community to "grow in charity and in apostolic and missionary devotion", in other words, to "give evidence with your life of your faith in Christ" and "cultivate ecclesial communion", which is a "gift", a "grace", "as well as a task entrusted to everyone’s responsibility".
