Today, Benedict XVI appointed, for the next five-year term, mgr. Mariano Crociata new secretary General of the Italian Bishops Conference (Cei). Mgr. Crociata was born in Castelvetrano (Trapani) on March 16th 1953. He studied at the Episcopal Seminary of Mazara del Vallo and took his school-leaving certificate from Liceo Classico Statale. He was at a student at Almo Collegio Capranica and attended the courses of philosophy and theology at the Papal Gregorian University in Rome, where he got a theology PhD with the dissertation: ‘Humanism and theology in Agostino Steuco’.
