In 2002, the European Union established a community goal: teaching two foreign languages since the earlier age. The purpose was confirmed, even though there are delays on a community level, and the knowledge of idioms other than the mother one remains "too limited". The participants in the States-General of multilingualism set up in Paris are also questioning themselves about specific subjects such as "creativity and innovation in the teaching of languages with respect to the goal fixed by the European Union in 2002"; "the contribution of multilingualism to the circulation of cultural heritage and works" and, in general, to intercultural dialogue; "the contribution of multilingualism to firms’ competitiveness and social cohesion". Moreover, several specialists were invited to face the themes linked with the new technologies for language teaching, the "policies of enrichment" of expressive forms, taking into consideration the study of modern terminology and neologisms. Among the participants at the Sorbonne, besides the national and European Union politicians in charge of the sector, there are university teachers and teachers of primary and secondary schools, translators and interpreters. ” “
