BENEDICT XVI: TO CCEE, "USING MODERN AREOPAGI IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY"

(For SIR correspondent in Budapest) – "Use the opportunities at your disposal in the best possible way to spread the Word of God to the people in your respective countries". This encouragement was addressed by Pope Benedict XVI to the participants in the plenary assembly of the Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE), opened in Esztergom, Hungary, this afternoon. The plenary assembly will last until 3rd October. "In this year, devoted to Apostle St. Paul, who announced the truth of the Gospel in accessible terms for a large and variegated audience – it is written in the message sent to Card. Peter Erdõ, archbishop of Budapest and president of CCEE – the « modern Areopagi » deserve special attention by the Pastors of the Church". Hence, the Pope hoped for, and prayed for, "ways to be found, leading the ones who are working in media to be more and more «respectful of truth in information, and in relation to human dignity» ". That is actually stated in the apostolic exhortation "Ecclesia in Europe", in order to let "their message really contribute to the construction of the kingdom of God on the Earth".
