(For SIR correspondent in Budapest) This afternoon, on concluding his speech for the works of the plenary assembly of the Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences in Esztergom (30th September 3rd October), Card. Erdõ recalled "the service of CCEE". Such service is meant to intensify the "network of common good" and "communion among Bishops’ Conferences", to contribute to the cultural renewal of Europe", from the "culture of life" and "of dignity of the person, to solidarity and subsidiarity". Then, by drawing a parallelism with the crisis of financial markets in the United States, showing us, in his opinion, "that without sound and responsible regulations", unbridled liberalism "leads to collapse", the cardinal wondered: "How much will this evidence cost to our societies? And how long will it take for the collapse of the culture of death and the culture of consumerism selfishness to become evident?".
