(For SIR correspondent in Budapest) Before the emerging "Christianophobia", in Europe and all over the world, "media should urgently shoulder responsibility". Media are more and more "influencing attitudes, judgements and behaviours in our societies". The warning was issued by Card. Peter Erdõ, archbishop of Budapest and president of the Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE). This afternoon, in Esztergom, he opened the works of the plenary assembly of the presidents of the thirty-four European Bishops’ Conferences with his speech. The assembly will last until October 3rd. "Therefore, a priority for the Church in this field pointed out Card. Erdõ should be investing in training, in order to be able to rely on people" with "critical abilities with respect to media". Those people should be able "to pay their contributions to make the media acquire an image of the real Church, not a mask of it". During the plenary assembly, the new CCEE secretary succeeding Msgr. Aldo Giordano, permanent observer of the Holy See in Strasbourg, will be elected. And it is not by chance that the theme of the plenary assembly is "Church and media for a common service to truth". This service is more and more necessary, since a phenomenon "which we might define of real Christianophobia has been emerging in Europe and all over the world for some years, by now".
