CHRISTIANS IN INDIA: "THE APPEAL" OF SISTER NIRMALA. THE DAY OF PRAYER TODAY

” “"Dear brothers and sisters of Orissa and of all India! Don’t let’s forget our true identity as the children loved by God, our Father. We are brothers and sisters to one another, regardless of our religion, race, culture or language. Whether we are rich or poor, nothing must divide us. But above all don’t let’s use religion to divide us". This is the appeal that sister Nirmala, superior general of the Missionary Nuns of Charity, a congregation founded by the Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, made from the Vatican Radio Station, asking to put an end to violence against Christians in India. "The essence of all religions – says sister Nirmala – is love, the love of God and the love of each other. Violence based on religion is a misuse of religion. The Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, our Mother, says: Religion is an act of love; it is not aimed at destroying peace and unity. The works produced by love are works of peace. Let’s use religion to become one heart, full of love, the heart of God". (continued)
