THE POPE IN CAGLIARI: "A NEW GENERATION" OF CHRISTIANS WORKING IN POLITICS IS NEEDED

The Italian political world "needs a new generation of committed lay Christians, able to look for solutions based on sustainable development, with moral rigour and experience”. It was said by the Pope, during the sermon at Mass, celebrated yesterday in Cagliari, in front of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bonaria, on the occasion of his eleventh apostolic journey in Italy. The reason of the visit was the hundredth anniversary of the proclamation of the Virgin of Bonaria as the "highest patron" of the island. Benedict XVI exhorted the Catholics to once again "be able to evangelise the world of work, economy and politics" and invited Christians to "let Christ be found by the young who are the natural carriers of such urge but who are often the victims of a widespread nihilism, longing for truth and ideals just as they seem to deny them “. Benedict XVI is the third Pope to have visited Sardinia, after Paul VI and John Paul II.
