A "Day of Prayer for Minorities" was observed by all churches in Pakistan yesterday and special prayers were also held in remembrance of Governor Taseer who is regarded by Christian communities as a "Muslim hero" for having spoken up for Asia Bibi, the Christian woman sentenced to death because of the blasphemy law. Flowers were laid on his tomb with prayers for him and for his family. "Our country is passing through a big crisis", said Ayra Inderias, from the Lahore diocese, during a service at the Protestant Cathedral of the Resurrection. "The governor raised his voice over a difficult issue". The human rights organization Rising Pakistan condemns the glorification "of an assassin and the culture of incitement and hatred". It therefore calls on the Pakistani government to take "real and meaningful action against those inciting hate and murder of those who are engaged in the debate about the blasphemy law".
