Pope Francis: audience, “migrations are part of the history of humanity”

“Migrations are part of the history of humanity”, Pope Francis said during today’s catechesis dedicated to the corporal work of mercy embodied in the words of Jesus: “I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me”. “The work of mercy of welcoming the stranger is very topical today”, Pope Francis said, as “the economic crisis, armed conflicts and climate change have forced many people to emigrate”. Nonetheless, “it is a lack of historical memory to think that migration is something typical only of our time”. “Even the Holy Family was forced to emigrate to flee Herod’s threat”, Pope Francis recalled, and the “history of humanity is a history of migrations: at every latitude, there is no people who has not experienced the phenomenon of migration”.
