Church in Europe
(Brussels) A new issue of Europeinfos, the monthly newsletter of the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) covering a wide range of topics, is now available online at europe-infos.eu. “Uprooted children” and the alarming figures recently released by Unicef about children “on the move” is the subject addressed by Martin Meier in his editorial. Then S&D MEP Jakob von Weizsäcker outlines the proposal by the Glienicker Group of a “European economic government with clear rights of intervention” in cases involving budget crisis and insolvency of a EU member state. In his contribution, Marek Mišák highlights the critical aspects of the proposal put forward by the European Commission in early July aimed at “all security sector actors” on supporting development and security. Jesuit Christian Rutishauser focuses on the burqa debate with a broader reflection on religious symbols in the public sphere and the meaning of the human face. Dominican Eric Salobir offers an in-depth analysis into the challenges, also legal, of artificial intelligence and its achievements. And last but not least, an interview by Johanna Touzel (COMECE) with Lilian Grootswagers from “Future for Religious Heritage (FRH)”, a European non-profit association based in Brussels which is committed to the protection of religious buildings and heritage in Europe.
