Church in Europe
The archdiocese of Mother of God in Moscow is getting ready to live two days of meetings as part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, about “Charity and social doctrine”. The first reflections will take place in the afternoon of Saturday 8th October with an insight into “Politics and charity”: after two stories about the efforts made by the Church in the Middle East and Chile, the meeting will explore the “relevance of the social doctrine of the Church in Europe today” (Eckhard Bieger, Frankfurt), then a parallel will be made with the social doctrine of the Church (Konstantin Kostiuk, Moscow), then the “impact of the social doctrine of the Church in Russia” will be investigated (Alexei Yudin). The day after, the meeting will instead be focussed on family life. The general vicar of the archdiocese, father Sergei Timashov, will speak of Pope Francis’s apostolic exhortation “Amoris laetitia”, followed by a workshop on “Families tested by our times”. Stories will include one told by father Andreij Lorgus, family psychologist, who will tell about the Orthodox experience in the “building of a happy family life”. Sunday’s meeting will be opened by the address of archbishop Celestino Migliore, new Apostolic Nuncio to the Russian Federation, a few days after his arrival in Moscow. The initiative is the result of a partnership between St Thomas Institute in Moscow and the culture centre “Doors of Pokrovskij”.
